to my children

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my children for depriving me of enough sleep that I gained the ability to fall asleep in any remotely quiet area. That skill has come in so handy in waiting rooms.  Thank you for forcing me to learn how to get paint out of the carpet. I had no idea I would need to know that until you. Thank you for teaching me to enjoy the simple things in life like hot dogs and boxed Mac & Cheese. Though to be fair, my arteries aren't as thankful for that one. Thank you for teaching me to sacrifice. My belly now looks like punched down bread dough. Thank you for showing me the value of things. Take LEGO's for example. Those things are unbreakable. Believe me, my feet have come across enough of them to know. Definitely worth the arm and leg we paid. Thank you for teaching me persistence. Who knew that if you stacked that many boxes, you would make it up to that bag of Doritos on the top shelf of the pantry. I have to admire that much grim determination.

No but really guys. Thank you for teaching me that I can love 6 little humans who often smell like wet puppies. And thanks for loving me. Because I know that I am and am not a lot of things. And you love me anyway.

Love Mom.

May the what?

I promise I liked Star Wars before it was cool. The original Star Wars of course. None of that pish posh prequel business. Back in the day, I played "Star Wars" games with my older brothers (mostly because that was the only way I could get my brothers to let me hang out with them, but still). So you could say I've always been a casual fan. I appreciate the cheesiness of it all. I enjoy watching the movies on occasion. But when Jonny bought the Star Wars blue ray trilogy set 5 years ago, our kids took the Star Wars love to another level. Oh and then Disney got involved. Curse you Disney and your monopolistic journey to take over the world with all that cash you rake in from merchandise and ticket sales. :)

Anyway, you can imagine the fervor that this day creates in my household. The kids have planned a Star Wars Party. I've been badgered into making some sort of Star Wars dinner tonight. I've got a bad feeling about this. :) I may be raising the biggest nerds in the galaxy, but it's technically my own fault so May the 4th be with you and all that. If you need me, I'll be shaking Jello out of R2D2 jello molds.
